Before the summer of 2010, National Bank of Arizona’s website was very outdated despite the volume of new accounts that were opened per month online.
I re-designed the site from scratch with the direction needed to segment the areas of banking that NB|AZ specializes in. The result looks better, but more importantly improves clients’ user experience.
By the summer of 2010 the National Bank of Arizona had been around for 25 years and had carved out a niche of Arizona by providing excellent service both to the community and its clients. Nbarizona.com, the bank's website, was in dire need of an upgrade as the then-current site looked like it had been designed in the early 2000s.
A major component of the upgrade would be the re-organization of content into the bank's 4 major business areas: personal, business, specialty, and wealth. For the first time, all of the bank's products would be listed in the same place at the same time.
NB|AZ, with the help of Mike Campbell, had come up with a distinguished, professional look for all of the brand's B2B and B2C communications. This look featured generous whitespace, smart use of typography, and practical structure. The site needed to look current in terms of web design standards, but also remain true to it's gridded foundation.
I wanted to design the site for flexible and interchangeable application, because such a high-level website like that of a bank changes a lot more than people might think. Visually and technically, it needed to be simple and easy for anyone to use. It needed to be rich with information, but not look crowded or intimidating.
Nbarizona.com's re-design features a fixed-width, centered layout that makes use of a symmetrical organic grid. With a sparing use of color and clear hierarchy, the new design serves NB|AZ clients by making interactivity with the site easier and sought-after pages a few clicks away or less. All pages have a consistent look and employ similar interface elements in order to create a cohesive experience for the user.
To this day, the content on the website is being updated. Having the design's flexibility intact was an original goal, and it has been achieved thus far. I believe this solution to be a massive improvement over its predecessor and hopefully users share that opinion.
