The Cities in Transformation exhibit was a project that saw Barcelona’s best architect studios travel to Phoenix to collaborate with the best studios in Phoenix.
The exhibit was set up in the Gallery at the Design School at Arizona State University to display to students and Phoenix residents the work of these recognized Spanish architects.
The Cities in Transformation exhibition was a collaborative, multi-part architecture exhibition between Arizona State University's School of Architecture and some of the biggest architecture firms in Barcelona. Coll-Leclerc, EMBT, and BOPBAA were a few of the firms involved. Myself and three other visual communication students were asked to design the exhibit and collateral. A poster, invite, and the visuals for the exhibition were the needed components.
For this leg of Cities in Transformation, Spanish architects would be visiting ASU, and the exhibit was being held to honor the work of these professionals. The event would be held in the Gallery at the Design School on ASU's campus, and would not only exhibit the work of these Barcelona studios, but also the difference in geography; the difference in culture.
In Spain, the studios make use of unique tables for each different project, and this would be replicated for the exhibit. The focus of the exhibit would be the beautiful photography of the finished works, but would also feature supplementary project notes and sketches provided by the firms.
The hand-built tables and large, colorful photography took center stage in the exhibit. Six of the eight total studios that were exhibited had two projects apiece to show, while the other two studios had one each. In all there were seven of these unique tables built, each with two sides to exhibit all 14 projects.
As a nod to the difference in geography, two entire walls of the Gallery were dedicated to arial photographs of Barcelona and Phoenix. The poster and invite for the event, designed by Matt Mang and Patrick Clark respectively, helped to visually tie in all of the elements of this very successful exhibit.
