Tweet! (Twitter plugin)

“Simple and intuitive.” That’s all I’ve ever wanted in a Twitter plugin and Tweet! is just that. Tweet! provides a vertical list view of a user’s tweets (the amount displayed is adjustable) including that user’s avatar. The capabilities are far greater than this however, as Tweet! can also display tweets by any user about a certain query, feeds that auto-update, all tweets by users in a certain twitter list, and favorited tweets. The metadata is also customizable. As an added bonus, it is very easy to manipulate from a visual standpoint. Very streamlined.

Spotlight: Animated Logos as Primary Brand Signature

Logos are changing. As we approach greater levels of technological achievement, branding is adding another layer of depth to the fold. No, it’s not broad levels of adaptability a la the new AOL logo; this is something completely different. The trend I’m referring to is the animated logo as the primary brand signature.

In Current’s brand introduction video, shown after the jump, we see very organic motion with the “flag” that the logo appears upon. Something to note is that while stopping the video on most frames, the full wordmark is at least partially visible. It goes without saying that the identity is very dynamic. Wolff Olins should be proud.

I came across these really cool early 20th century receipts from local businesses in New York City. These all seem to be for local businesses. Click on the images to see them larger. Compliments to Ephemeral New York.

It sounds cliché for a designer to say this, but it’s really too bad that things aren’t produced with this level of care and detail regularly anymore. These relics from the past remind us both of how far we’ve come and why it’s important to remember the history of design.
